How to Prepare for Your First Sensory Reiki™ Session

Simple ways to help your body arrive ready to receive.

If you've scheduled your first Sensory Reiki™ session, welcome.

One of the questions I'm asked most often is,

"Is there anything I should do before I come?"

The answer is yes—but not in the way most people expect.

You don't need to meditate.

You don't need to clear your mind.

You don't need to know anything about Reiki.

You simply need to arrive exactly as you are.

That said, there are a few gentle ways you can support your body before your session.

Think of these as invitations rather than rules.

Every Sensory Reiki™ Session Is Unique

No two sessions are ever the same.

Rather than following a fixed protocol, I respond intuitively to what your body and nervous system are communicating in the moment. Every session is thoughtfully guided using Reiki, gentle somatic touch, intuitive craniosacral work, breath, sensory tools, and nervous system support to create an experience that's uniquely yours.

Because of that, preparation isn't about doing something perfectly.

It's simply about creating a little space for your body to receive.

Begin with an Intention

Before your appointment, take a quiet moment to ask yourself:

  • What would I like to feel more of?

  • What feels heavy right now?

  • What am I ready to let go of?

There isn't a right or wrong answer.

You might write it in a journal, speak it quietly to yourself, or simply hold it in your heart.

We'll spend a few moments talking together before your session begins.

Support Your Body

Sensory Reiki™ is a deeply body-centered experience.

Everything we do is designed to support your nervous system's natural ability to soften, regulate, and restore.

Before your appointment, I recommend:

  • Staying well hydrated before and after your session.

  • Eating something light beforehand if you're hungry.

  • Avoiding alcohol and limiting caffeine for about 24 hours beforehand, if possible.

If any of the following apply to you, please let me know before your appointment:

  • Allergies to oils or salves

  • Metal implants (as tuning forks may be affected)

  • Recent illness, parasite flare, or digestive imbalance

  • Pregnancy or postpartum changes

These details simply help me tailor your experience with the care and attention you deserve.

For your safety and to ensure you receive the greatest benefit from this work, Sensory Reiki™ isn't appropriate if you're currently using hard recreational drugs. If you're unsure whether this applies to you, please don't hesitate to reach out before scheduling.

Arrive Comfortable

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows you to fully relax.

If possible, leave your neck and upper chest accessible, as I often work gently in these areas.

Minimal jewelry and makeup can also make your experience more comfortable.

If you have long hair, wearing it down allows me to incorporate intuitive craniosacral work more easily if your body calls for it during the session.

Most importantly...

There is nothing you need to do perfectly.

Simply come exactly as you are.

Healing Continues After the Session

One of the beautiful things about Sensory Reiki™ is that the experience doesn't necessarily end when you leave.

Many people notice subtle shifts over the next day or two as their nervous system continues integrating.

Some people feel deeply rested.

Some notice greater clarity.

Others simply find themselves moving through life with a little more ease.

If you can, support that integration by:

  • Drinking plenty of water.

  • Giving yourself permission to rest.

  • Spending time in nature or the ocean if it's available to you.

  • Journaling anything that arises.

  • Being especially gentle with yourself over the following day or two.

Every experience is unique.

Whatever unfolds, trust your body's own rhythm.

I'm Here to Support You

If anything comes up after your session or you have questions about your experience, please know you're always welcome to reach out.

One of the things I value most is creating a space where people feel supported—not just during the session itself, but afterward as well.

A Gentle Invitation

Preparing for a Sensory Reiki™ session isn't about getting everything right.

It's simply about giving yourself permission to slow down before you arrive.

The rest, we'll experience together.

I look forward to welcoming you.
