Why You May Feel Different After a Healing Session Understanding integration after Sensory Reiki™
One of the questions I'm asked most often is,
"Is it normal to feel different after my session?"
The answer is:
Sometimes, yes.
Some people leave feeling lighter, calmer, and deeply relaxed.
Others notice subtle shifts over the next day or two.
Some sleep more than usual.
Some feel unexpectedly emotional.
Some experience a sense of clarity they haven't felt in years.
Every body responds differently because every nervous system has its own blueprint.
There isn't one "right" way to experience healing.
Healing Doesn't Always End When the Session Does
One of the beautiful things about Reiki—and especially Sensory Reiki™—is that the work doesn't necessarily stop when you leave the treatment table.
Your body continues processing.
Your nervous system continues integrating.
Your mind begins making sense of what your body finally had permission to feel.
Many clients notice gentle changes over the following 24–48 hours.
Sometimes even longer.
This isn't because something is wrong.
It's because your body has been given space to do what it naturally knows how to do.
What Integration Can Feel Like
Integration looks different for everyone.
You might notice:
Feeling unusually relaxed or sleepy
A deeper night's sleep
Emotional sensitivity
Feeling lighter or more present
Greater mental clarity
Vivid dreams
A desire for quiet
Physical sensations as the body unwinds
New insights or memories surfacing
Sometimes nothing dramatic happens at all.
And that's completely normal too.
Healing isn't measured by how intense the experience feels.
Why This Happens
Many of us spend years living in survival mode.
Our bodies become accustomed to being "on."
When the nervous system finally experiences safety, it can begin letting go of patterns that have been held for a long time.
That doesn't always happen during the session itself.
Sometimes it happens afterward.
Rather than forcing change, Reiki creates the conditions where your body can begin regulating at its own pace.
For me, that's one of the most beautiful parts of this work.
I don't believe healing is something I "do" to someone.
I simply create a space where the body feels safe enough to do what it has always known how to do.
How to Support Yourself After Your Session
One of the best things you can do is... very little.
Give yourself permission to slow down.
Some simple ways to support your integration include:
Drink plenty of water.
Dip in the ocean or take an epsom salt bath.
Eat nourishing foods.
Rest if your body asks for it.
Spend time in nature.
Journal anything that comes up.
Be gentle with yourself over the next couple of days.
Healing isn't a race.
When to Reach Out
If you have questions after your session, I always encourage you to reach out.
Sometimes people simply want reassurance that what they're experiencing is normal.
Sometimes they want to share an insight that surfaced.
Sometimes they just need someone to witness their experience.
You don't have to navigate that alone.
I'm always happy to support my clients before, during, and after our work together.
A Gentle Perspective
One of the things I've learned after years of holding space for people is this:
Healing rarely looks the way we expect it to.
Sometimes it's a beautiful emotional release.
Sometimes it's sleeping through the night for the first time in months.
Sometimes it's realizing your shoulders aren't up around your ears anymore.
Sometimes it's simply taking one deep breath and noticing that it finally feels easy.
There doesn't have to be a dramatic breakthrough for something meaningful to happen.
Often, the deepest healing is surprisingly quiet.
