What is Reiki?
And why it's about so much more than energy healing.
If you've found yourself here, chances are you're looking for something deeper than relaxation.
Maybe you've been carrying stress for so long that it feels normal. Maybe you've tried massages, vacations, meditation, therapy, or supplements, yet something still feels like it's asking for your attention.
I see this all the time.
Many of the people who come to me aren't searching for Reiki itself. They're searching for a way to feel like themselves again.
Reiki is simply one way back to that place.
So... What Is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle Japanese healing practice that works with universal life force energy—the natural energy believed to flow through all living beings.
Rather than forcing change, Reiki invites your body into a state where healing can naturally occur.
During a session, the practitioner channels this energy through gentle hands-on or hands-above-the-body techniques, creating space for the nervous system to soften, the mind to quiet, and the body to move out of survival mode.
Many people describe it as the first deep exhale they've taken in a very long time.
Reiki Isn't About Fixing You
One of the biggest misconceptions about Reiki is that it's trying to fix something that's broken.
I don't believe you're broken.
Our bodies are incredibly intelligent.
Sometimes they're simply overwhelmed.
Stress accumulates.
Life happens.
Grief settles into the body.
Our nervous system learns to stay alert, even when we're safe.
Reiki gently reminds the body what regulation feels like again.
It's less about adding something new and more about remembering what's always been there.
Where Reiki Comes From
Traditional Reiki that most people know of today was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan during the early 1900s after a profound spiritual experience on Mount Kurama.
From there, Reiki was passed from teacher to student through a lineage that continues today.
While it began with Usui, many people feel the experience itself touches something universal in each of us that we all recognize.
What Does Reiki Actually Feel Like?
Every experience is different.
Some people notice warmth moving through their body.
Others feel heaviness melting away.
Some people see colors.
Some fall asleep.
Some experience emotion gently rising to the surface.
Others simply notice that, for the first time in months, their mind becomes quiet.
There isn't a "right" experience.
Your body responds in the way it needs to.
What Does the Research Say?
While Reiki is considered a complementary healing practice rather than a replacement for medical care, research continues to explore its potential benefits.
Studies suggest Reiki may help:
Reduce stress and anxiety
Support relaxation and nervous system regulation
Improve sleep
Ease pain perception
Support emotional well-being
Because of these benefits, Reiki is now offered in many hospitals, hospices, and integrative health settings alongside traditional care.
Why My Approach Is Different
Although Reiki is the foundation of my work, it's only one part of the experience I offer.
Over the years I noticed something.
Many people didn't just need energy work.
They needed their bodies to feel safe enough to receive it.
That realization became the inspiration behind Sensory Reiki™.
Rather than offering Reiki alone, each session is intuitively guided using Reiki, somatic touch, nervous system regulation, sensory tools, breath and intuitive craniosacral work.
No two sessions are ever the same because no two nervous systems are the same.
Instead of following a protocol, I respond to what your body is communicating in the moment.
My intention is simple:
To create a space where your entire system can soften, settle, and remember what it feels like to come home to yourself.
Is Reiki Right for You?
You don't have to understand Reiki for it to be meaningful.
You don't have to be "spiritual."
You don't even have to believe in energy healing.
You simply have to be willing to slow down and allow yourself to receive.
If you've been feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, emotionally exhausted, or like you've been carrying more than your body was ever meant to hold, Reiki can offer a gentle place to begin.
A Gentle Invitation
Healing doesn't always have to be intense to work deeply.
Sometimes the greatest shifts happen when we finally feel safe enough to soften.
If you're curious about experiencing Sensory Reiki™, I'd be honored to welcome you into that space.
Whether you're visiting Maui or joining me from anywhere in the world through Distance Reiki, my intention is always the same:
To help you reconnect with yourself—and leave feeling a little more like you.
